Ridgeway Support Team - A view from the newest member

Alex Cox

I’m the latest addition to the dedicated Support Team here at Ridgeway.

I’m what Chewbacca is to Han Solo, Goose is to Maverick, Short Round is to Indiana Jones; which apart from revealing my taste in classic movies also reveals I am an important right-hand man.

Support team

I’ve joined as a Support Executive, which in simplified terms means it is my job to be the person between developer and client; taking requirements and managing resource.

I get to work with some exceptional web developers, who while not up to their eyeballs in .Net code, are supportive and always prepared to offer advice. Together, we get the privilege to work with such clients as Twinings, and hmv

It’s a fun and challenging job to meet deadlines but with that comes a great deal of satisfaction when an issue is resolved, or we deliver on time and to budget.

As a team we help keep our clients’ sites in top condition, resolving bugs and implementing changes. This means we work in an agile way bouncing from one project to the next, so there is never a dull moment in our corner of the office. Plus we can get really creative with post-it notes.

Some examples of the work we are currently undertaking as a team:

  • Busy making sure the ecommerce sites of our clients are ready and prepared for the Christmas shopping rush
  • Some amendments to the Oxfordshire Business Awards website, ready for the launch of the 2016 awards
  • Finalising the adoption of a large intranet system so we can support it moving forward

It’s a fun and challenging job to meet deadlines but with that comes a great deal of satisfaction when an issue is resolved, or we deliver on time and to budget.

A few takeaway facts from my first few weeks:

  • I have a love/hate relationship with Jira (our ticketing system) already
  • I might have minor OCD when it comes to post-it note colours
  • Kentico is a really powerful CMS
  • Some of the development solutions the team at Ridgeway build are amazing
  • Peer to peer communication is abundant and really helps get to the cause of issues
  • You can never have too many whiteboards
  • Having freshly ground coffee at literally the push of a button is incredible (whilst simultaneously terrible for caffeine intake)

So if you call in to the office or send a support request through, be sure to say hello - I hopefully offer a valuable perspective to the team as before this role I worked at another Oxfordshire digital agency, cutting my figurative digital teeth.

This has been beneficial as it has prepared me for joining Ridgeway’s busy team and I feel as though I’ve hit the ground running!
